This Professional Communication Practice unit requires you to demonstrate a critical on the topic of professional communication from health setting, by writing a reflection of an event or issue you have experienced in communication with a health professional.
Choosing an event to reflect upon:
You can choose any topic related to professional health communication highlighted in the context of this unit. The reflection can relate to a variety of issues, including, but not limited to: a personal experience of yours, or a family member, that related to difficult, strained or misunderstood communication with a health professional. For example, a GP, Psychologist, Pharmacist, Dentist, hospital staff or any other health profession. You may choose an event you experienced as a student whilst on placement in a health setting. The reflection may relate to something that did not go well or may relate to an experience that appeared to have a positive outcome. The reflection is to be focused on the communication process, not health or client outcomes.
You should choose an event or issue that has allowed you to link , to your practice or personal experience and where you have utilised available resources. The entry should be a maximum of 1500 words & demonstrate the application of a reflective framework of your choice (although Gibbs (1988) is recommended).
