Assignment Overview

Specific instructions are in each of the individual Sections. You will complete this project over the course of the semester. The completed activities and other requested documents (i.e., interview template, cover letter) will be due prior to class presentation day 1. All deadlines are on the course schedule.

This assignment will take time and planning. I suggest you begin sooner rather than later!

Section 1: Identify & Define a Job that Highly Interests You (p. 2)

1.      
Think of a job that you are highly interested in obtaining after graduation.

2.      
Find a real job advertisement for a company hiring for that position (you will submit this).

3.      
Retrieve and review that job’s description from O*Net (https://www.onetonline.org/).

4.      
Using that job description, complete Job Analysis Activity Sheet 1.

Section 2: Conduct an Informational Interview with Two Job Incumbents (p. 4)

1.      
Read the personal job analysis/informational interviewing instructions.

2.      
Prepare a semi-structured interview to be conducted with two subject matter experts that are  incumbents in the job you identified for Section 1.

3.      
Create an interview template for use during the interviews.

4.      
Interview two subject matter experts in the position. This cannot be a family member or close family friend – consider this practice for networking and connect with someone you do not know.

5.      
Record your responses on your interview template and complete Job Analysis Activity Sheet 3.

6.      
Submit your interview template when you submit this workbook for grading.

Section 3: Identify Essential Functions & KSAOs for that Job (p. 9)

1.      
Using the same job used for Section 1, identify the job’s essential & nonessential job functions.

2.      
Complete Job Analysis Activity Section 3.
