Introduction
Genetically modified (GMO) foods is one of the most controversy topics nowadays. GMO foods are plants that have been genetically modified to add desirable traits and remove undesirable traits to their DNA. To introduce new traits to foods, which otherwise wouldn’t be naturally possible, genes from the DNA of other organisms are recombined into the DNA of the desired plant through “gene technology” or “recombinant DNA technology”. There are many benefits of GMO foods like herbicide-tolerant crops and resistant against plant diseases crops. On the other hand, there are a lot of opposition regarding the use of GMO technology which claim that they produce allergies, resistance to antibiotics and there is even some people that claim that it produces cancer. The objective of this paper will be to study the predominant scientifically proven arguments against and in favor of GMO foods to conclude if the benefits of GMO foods outweigh the drawbacks.

Background and Significance
As of today, there is more than 7.5 billion people in the world and it is growing at a rapid rate. Therefore, we are responsible to find ways to feed the world’s population efficiently. GMO foods contributes to this goal by creating GMO crops that contain grater nutrients, are greater drought and flood resistance, are higher in yield and are insect resistant. But many claim that GMO are doing more harm than good, for this reason this topic is very important since it affects all the people in the world. Should we take advantage of GMO foods to solve many problems in the world? or Are the side effects of GMO foods worse than the problems it can solve?

Literature Review
The following scientific arguments and studies are some of the main ideas to be examined to accomplish the objective of this paper.
Argument in favor of GMO foods:
– GMO foods contain an increase nutritional content that can be very helpful for underdeveloped countries where they rely on a single staple food crop for their energy intake (Key, Ma & Drake, 2008).
– GMO foods result in a greater crop yield due to them being grater in drought, flood, pathogen and insect resistant compared to non-GMO crops (Pellegrino, Bedini & Ercoli, 2018).
– Some GMO crops allow the process of “pharming” were it is possible to produce vaccines and proteins used in the pharmaceutical industry (Gohd, 2018).
Argument against of GMO foods:
– Genetic contamination caused by GMO foods inbreeding with wild crops can eventually outlive the natural crops (Prakash, Verma, Bhatia & Tiwary, 2011).
– Since GMO foods are more resilient than natural crops, they can cause ecological and economic damages by spreading invasively into new habitats (Prakash, Verma, Bhatia & Tiwary, 2011).
– Once the GMO crops are introduced to our environment it is very difficult to eliminate them if a problem arises (Prakash, Verma, Bhatia & Tiwary, 2011).
– GMO foods cause health problems, some of them are the transfer of antibiotic resistant genes to bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, human absorption of genes introduced by GMO plants and allergic reactions (Dona & Arvanitoyannis, 2009).

Research Design and Methods
The method that will be implemented to achieve the purpose of this paper is the analysis of credible scientific studies done to GMO foods. Any arguments or claims that have not been previously proven through a reliable study will not be taken in consideration on the overall conclusion of the paper. To get to a conclusion all the important argument in favor will be compared to the argument against GMO foods to find if GMO foods are worth continually being used despite its drawbacks.
