Reading, Mikesell, pp. 627 – 633(tax expenditures) and evaluate the following: “Giving volunteer firefighters a tax break on their real estate taxes is a decent way to show appreciation for their community service, but I do not support paying them wages. After all, they’re volunteers!” If you think there is something wrong with the statement, how would you explain briefly, the greater frequency of tax reductions than money payments for people performing this service?
